Flood Call 484

A female caller is attempting to determine if she will need to evacuate her apartment. The operator informs her that there is only a voluntary evacuation in place, but that she should probably evacuate if she has a place to go. The operator informs the caller of the relocation of the Emergency Operations Center to the University campus. The caller asks about a radio station providing information, which the operator informs the caller that it is 104.3 FM. The operator asks the caller to call back in 20 minutes to reach the EOC. The caller asks about the condition of the dikes, to which the operator informs her that they are leaking and that there is water backing up in the drainage system.

I need to find out whether or not I need to evacuate my apartment.
Okay.
Right now they're calling for a voluntary evacuation of Grand Forks and what that means
is if you have some place to go out of the city that would be a good idea.
They're not making anybody leave other than the areas they've already evacuated and as
far as if your specific area is going to be evacuated I don't have that information because
right now our ELC is, they got flooded too and they're in the process of moving over
to the university and their phone lines aren't hooked up yet so if you just call this number
back in about 20 minutes they should have it reconnected and it'll ring at their place
instead of here.
Okay.
I know there's a radio station there answering questions about that as far as the area and
if they should get out or if they can stay, do you know about that?
Let's see, it's been 104.3 I believe it is on the FM.
Yeah, they're probably getting their information.
I don't know if ELC is contacting them or what, we're just like I said fielding the
phone calls so the ELC can get theirs back up.
Okay, but you don't have their phone number?
They don't have a number yet other than cell phones and they didn't leave any of that with
us so.
Okay, so call this number back in 20 minutes?
And hopefully we back up, if not you'll get one of us again but we're hoping that within
the next 15 to 20 they should have their lines hooked up.
Okay, so the dike hasn't broken, it's just leaking right?
It's just leaking and we're having a lot of water coming up from the drainage system
because it's flooding it at certain areas of Grand Forks and it can't hold it until
it's coming up other places.
That's why we're flooding here at the police department.
Okay, I'll call back in 20 minutes.
Okay, thank you.
Thank you.
