Administrative/Biographical History
Henry R. "Caesar" Murphy was born on September 3, 1894, in Mapleton, North Dakota. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in June 1917 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He played on both the football and basketball teams and was inducted into the UND Sports Hall of Fame in 1976. Murphy was drafted into the U.S. Army in May 1917, during the First World War. He served overseas from August 1918 until May 1919 as a 2nd Lieutenant in a machine gun battalion. Caesar Murphy died on April 1, 1980, and was buried in Minot, North Dakota.
