Scope and Contents of the Materials
The John H. Cox Papers consist of two letters written by Cox to Julie Burgess of Silver Creek, New York, on October 1 and November 1, 1901. The second letter contains several photographs of the UND campus taken by Cox.
Collection Historical Note
John Harrington Cox was born in Illinois on May 27, 1863. He received degrees from Brown (Ph.B.), Harvard (M.A. and Ph.D.), and Ohio Wesleyan (Litt. D.). Cox served as a Professor of English Language and Literature at UND from 1901 until 1902. He then moved to the University of West Virginia in 1902, where he was a professor until 1934. He died in 1945.
