Brief Description: The Reservation Frontier Project Records consist of eleven oral history interviews conducted by Dr. Karen Hansen of Brandeis University. In 1999, she interviewed several people who lived near Devils Lake, North Dakota, especially near the Spirit Lake Reservation. Dr. Hansen's intent was to explore the intersection of the lives of Scandinavian settlers with those living on the reservation. In 2013, Dr. Hansen published Encounter on the Great Plains: Scandinavian Settlers and the Dispossession of Dakota Indians, 1890-1930. This book is available in Special Collections.
