Administrative/Biographical History
Edmond A. Hughes was born 24 October 1873 at Elk Point, Dakota Territory. When he was five years old, his family moved to Bismarck, where he graduated from high school. He attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, for a short time before entering the electricity and telephone communication industries. He built a North Dakota electricity generation empire, which allowed him to invest in real estate in Bismarck. He also promoted a bond to pave the streets.
His first marriage, to the former Edith Wakeman, ended in divorce. In 1940, he married Anna Mae Ankenmann. They spent their winters in Florida, but lived in Bismarck the rest of the year. Edmond A. Hughes died October 8, 1970, in Florida.
