Abstract
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Kathy Coudle King Papers consist of two plays authored by King. ..Til the Fat Lady Sings was written in 1992 for the Charlotte Danstrom Series. The two act play tells the story of Billi Mills, an up and coming blues singer. She is at peace with her body image until she loses a gig based on her large-size figure. She then embarks on an exercise and diet routine with her best friend, Liz.
Women with Wrinkles was written in 1992 and explores the relationship between a black woman and a white woman in a Southern nursing home.
Also included is one folder of biographical materials, consisting of newspaper clippings from the Grand Forks Herald and the Dakota Student.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Coudle King attended New York University, graduating in 1989 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Master of Arts in English in 1993. The title of her thesis was Childless Couples on the American Stage.
King is the author of numerous plays, including ...Til the Fat Lady Sings and Women with Wrinkles (1992), Ralph's Ark (1995), Last Call (1996), and Milk Dreams (2002). She published her first book, Wannabe, in 2000. She has also contributed an essay, "A Eulogy for Peggy Pen Pal, 1971-1997," for The Ghost of Lake Agassiz, 1997.
Kathy Coudle King is a Senior Lecturer in English and Women's Studies at the University of North Dakota.
