V (Veigel) Newsletters, 1980-1990
Louis W. Veigel was born July 9, 1909, in Dickinson, North Dakota. He earned a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from the University of North Dakota in 1930. In 1933, he was appointed city engineer for Dickinson. Veigel married Mary Ellen Kelly in 1939, and they had four children. From 1933 to 1955 (except for two years during World War II when he repaired ships for the U.S. Navy) Veigel served as Dickinson's city engineer and, occasionally, as an engineer for Stark County, North Dakota. He then worked as an engineering consultant for various cities and counties until his retirement in 1982. Veigel served terms as president for the North Dakota Water and Sewage Works Conference and as president of the North Dakota Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. In the 1960s, he served a term on the North Dakota Parks Commission.
After retirement, Louis and Mary Ellen Veigel produced a weekly newsletter for their children, with Louis as editor and Mary Ellen as publisher. The newsletter contained articles on family history and activities, and included commentaries on local, national, and international events. Newsletters were published from August 27, 1980 through December 24,1990. Louis Veigel died December 25, 1995.
