Abstract
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Fred Schneider Papers consist primarily of historical postcards of Grand Forks and the University of North Dakota. The postcards were kept in their original order. Two hundred Grand Forks postcards were divided into the following categories: Grand Forks promotional postcards, hotels, schools, churches, hospitals, city hall, post office and court house, public library, downtown buildings, DeMers Avenue and 3rd Street, street scenes, parks, swimming pool, town and country club, Red River bridges, Red River scenes, mills and factories, scenes of Grand Forks, state fairgrounds, airport, and armory. All of the individual Grand Forks postcards are listed in the box and folder inventory.
Materials related to the University of North Dakota include a Murad Cigarette card, two Egyptienne Luxury tobacco silks, and 53 historical postcards. The postcards depict the UND campus and buildings such as the President's residence, Chester Fritz Auditorium, and the Library building. All of the individual UND postcards are listed in the box and folder inventory.
Also included are 172 of Fred Schneider's personal pictures of the 1997 flood. The pictures were kept in their original order, and depict the Schneider home and their neighborhood before and after the flood, as well as the city of Grand Forks after the flood. Also included are four aerial photographs of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. All of the photographs are listed in the box and folder inventory.
Buttons from the Fort Totten Days, the United Tribes Pow-Wow, and the UND Indian Association (UNDIA) Time-Out and WACIPI are also included. Duplicate Time-Out and WACIPI buttons were placed in University Publications. All of the individual buttons are listed in the box and folder inventory.
Other materials in the collection include Schneider's personal journal from the 1997 flood, an article from Life Magazine entitled "After the Flood: Grand Forks Rebuilds," and 1998 and 1999 Grand Forks History calendars.
