Administrative/Biographical History
The University Council formed in 1906 and was responsible for all matters of university policy. It instituted a formal schedule of salaries, a system of tenure, and a sabbatical policy. All deans and faculty were members of the University Council. Deans were responsible for student petitions and issues, while professors wrote and proposed new policies. The Council was a more inclusive governing body, as opposed to the more exclusive Administrative Committee.
