Administrative/Biographical History
The North Dakota State Horticultural Society was organized in September 1923 in Valley City, ND. The first elected officers were E.C. Hilborn, president; George Will, vice president; A.F. Yaeger, secretary; and C.A. Chinberg, treasurer. Membership increased during the first year from 17 to 130. A prior North Dakota Horticultural Society, affiliated with the Minnesota Horticultural Society, was organized in 1904 and disbanded in 1919. Its meetings were held during the Tri-State Grain Growers convention.

Scope and Contents: The North Dakota State Horticultural Society Records contain several publications. Included is the North Dakota Horticultural Handbook for 1926 and 1928, containing convention speeches, constitution, newsletters, membership lists, and horticultural information. Also included are four issues of North and South Dakota Horticulture, published jointly by the North and South Dakota Horticultural societies.
