Administrative/Biographical History
The first yearbook or annual for the University of North Dakota was issued in 1904. Called The Dacotah, later shortened to Dacotah, it included summaries of the previous graduating classes along with the usual content about members of the classes and student organizations. Frederick H. Larsen was editor-in-chief. The Dacotah was published every other year through 1916, when it ceased publication until 1921 due to World War I. Beginning in 1923, it was published annually through 1933. It was not issued in 1934 and 1936 because of the Great Depression. In 1937, it was again published every year through 1942, when World War II caused another stoppage. Publication resumed in 1945 and continued on an annual basis through 1972. A final edition of Dacotah was issued for the 1976-1977 school year by the Student Senate. However, it was a modest publication, consisting of fewer than 30 pages.
