Administrative/Biographical History
The first UND commencement occurred June 13, 1889. Eight students, six women and two men, received degrees. Generally, UND has held commencements three times each calendar year: Spring, Summer, and Winter. The School of Law and the School of Medicine hold one commencement per year at the end of the Spring semester.

Scope and Contents: The collection consists of UND commencement programs, beginning in 1889. Generally, three commencements were held each calendar year, in the Spring, Summer, and Winter. The Summer and Winter commencements, however, did not always occur. The folders contain the formal commencement program for all ceremonies. Other documents sometimes included are the commencement speaker's remarks, menus for the class dinner, and programs for the baccalaureate services. The first series contains programs for the general UND commencements. The second series contains programs for the UND School of Law, and the third series is for the UND School of Medicine.
