Scope and Contents: The Galen L. Geer Papers, 1967-2006, consist of the September and October 1980 issues of Soldier of Fortune magazine, which include the signed articles "Assignment Afghanistan" and "Jihad in Afghanistan." The first article deals with a new weapon, the AKS-74 and its ammunition. The second is a historical account of political instability in Afghanistan with an emphasis on tribal factions. These articles are the result of eleven days Geer spent with Afghan rebels engaged in a holy war with the Russians. Also included is some biographical information and a facsimile copy of P.A. Clancey's 1967 book, Gamebirds of Southern Africa.
