Administrative/Biographical History
On January 4, 1916, Mabel and Emery Bliven were married in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Two days later, they moved to a homestead forty miles east of Middle River, Minnesota, in rural Beltrami County. Mabel gave birth to a daughter, Dolores, on November 16, 1916, at her mother's house in Grand Forks. A second daughter, Harriet, was born in September 1918. After proving their claim, the Bliven family moved back to Grand Forks in 1921.

Scope and Contents: The Mabel Bliven Oral Interviews consist of Mabel’s remembrances of living on the family homestead in Beltrami County. Other subjects are discussed, including the celebration surrounding the end of World War I, but the vast majority of the interview regards life on the homestead. A transcript, as well as the taped interview on two audio-cassette tapes, is included.
