Administrative/Biographical History
Albert C. Baker was born at Whitewater, Wisconsin, 10 March 1875. He graduated from the University of North Dakota (UND) with a Bachelor of Arts in 1897 and continued his education at Kansas City Medical College, graduating in 1901. He began medical practice in Davenport, Oklahoma, and later in Spokane, Washington.
Mary E. "Mamie" Kingsland was born in Houston, Minnesota. She also graduated with a B.A. degree from UND in 1897 and taught school in Nevada, Missouri, prior to their marriage on Christmas Day, 1903, in Nevada. The Bakers had one daughter, Mary Catherine, born in September 1910 in Spokane.

Scope and Contents: The Albert Baker and Mamie Kingsland Baker Papers consist mostly of correspondence by Albert to Mamie. Many of these were love letters from "Bert" prior to their marriage in 1903. The collection also contains an Adelphi Society pin that belonged to either Albert or Mamie, and a photograph of their daughter, Mary Catherine. In addition, there is a copy of The Student from January 1896 which lists Mamie Kingsland as one of the literary contributors.
