Abstract
1961-; academic program for undergraduate students at the University of North Dakota
Administrative/Biographical History
The University of North Dakota's Honors Program was created in September 1961 under the administration of President George Starcher. The original purpose of the Honors Program was to encourage gifted or especially motivated undergraduates to seek learning experiences in and out of the classroom, work independently, and to pursue that breadth of experience and vision known traditionally as liberal education. The structure of the four year Honors Program at UND was focused around colloquium courses on various disciplines, essays and examinations used as diagnostic evaluation and a senior thesis to be completed before graduating from the program.
