Administrative/Biographical History
The Fortnightly Club was founded by Rev. Frank Hays, a Grand Forks Presbyterian minister, on October 20, 1898, with sixteen charter members. Meetings were held the first and third Monday from October through May. As stated in the constitution, “The object of this club shall be the cultivation of social relations, and as a means thereto the discussion of literary, scientific, and current topics.” Membership included prominent persons at the University of North Dakota, as well as members of the business, legal and medical communities.
