"John Douglas Leith, a former dean at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., died Monday at the Meadowlark Hills Health Care Unity in Manhattan, Kan. He was 90 years old and had lived there since 1987. Mr. Leith, a graduate of the University of North Dakota, taught there until 1936. From 1937 to 1941 he was the director of student personnel at Teachers College, Columbia University. He joined the administrative staff at Lehigh University in 1946, was named dean of students in 1958 and retired in 1963.
He is survived by two sons, John, of Auburndale, Mass. and David, of Manhattan, Kan.; a sister, Lillian Witmer, of Grand Forks, N.D.; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild."

Scope and Contents: The J. Douglas Leith Papers consist of memoranda from the mid-1930s while Leith served as Freshman Scholarship Adviser. He was also a faculty member in Mathematics and wrote several reports on faculty inbreeding and turnover at UND. In addition, there is a newspaper clipping, and two photographs with an accompanying letter (1960) from former UND classmate Dr. Min Hin Li.
