Pearl Young was a 1919 UND graduate and the first female professional to work for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), the predecessor of NASA.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Pearl Young Papers consist of scrapbooks, correspondence, articles, the dedication of the Pearl Young Theater, and two of her publications. The scrapbooks are the most extensive component and are from her travels to Europe and to Hawaii. Contents of the scrapbooks include journals, photographs, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, receipts, and trip itineraries. In addition, there is personal and professional correspondence, primarily to her friend and co-worker, Viola Ohler Phillips. Articles about Young and some of the people she worked with at the NACA/NASA Langley Research Center are also included. Additionally, there is one folder of materials about the dedication of the Pearl Young Theater at the Langley Research Center in 1995, and two publications by Young on early French aviators.
