Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Merrifield Competition is sponsored by the Elwyn B. Robinson Department of Special Collections and the Department of History. The annual competition awards a $1,000 scholarship to the UND student who writes the most outstanding scholarly research paper which utilizes primary source material from Special Collections. The winner is chosen by a jury of four UND faculty members. The Competition is named in honor of Webster Merrifield, UND’s first Librarian and third President.

Administrative Information

Accruals: The collection is added to on an annual basis, following the end of that year's competition.

Access Restrictions: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Elwyn B. Robinson Department of Special Collections.
