Twenty women attended a pre-organizational meeting for a local chapter of the League of Women Voters in Minot, North Dakota on April 30, 1956. The Minot League of Women Voters was organized on May 14, 1956. The first officers were: Mrs. James Harper, President; Mrs. Marvel Maher, Vice President; Mrs. T. H. Foss, Second Vice President; Mrs. Allen C. Hensrud, Secretary; Helen Burns, Treasurer. Four Directors were also elected: Mrs. William Kitto, Mary Frisch, Mrs. Michael Dolan, and Mrs. M. L. Bearman.
