Brief Description:

The Vernice Aldrich Papers consist of correspondence, financial records, programs, pamphlets, minutes, reports, articles, manuscripts, periodicals, newspaper clippings, and photographs, primarily dating from 1923 to 1947, and arranged chronologically.

General correspondence (1923-1947) concerns the North Dakota Wheat Growers Association and Wesley College, but also includes personal matters. Chi Omega correspondence (1922-1945) concerns the Psi Gamma Chapter of Chi Omega and includes Sigma Alpha Iota Yearbook, 1924-1926.

Army Air Force Program folders include syllabi and other materials pertaining to its Geography curriculum. Agricultural Bulletins and Reports (1920-1945) include: U.S. Department of Commerce publications (bulk from 1928); newspaper clippings from Wheat Grower; Pooling for Profits (North Dakota Wheat Growers Association, July 1928); Merchandise!: You, too, can solve your Marketing Problems by Commodity Cooperative Marketing (North Dakota – Montana Wheat Growers Association, Sept. 15, 1929); Cooperative Marketing (1920) by Aaron Sapiro; notes on Gov. Frank O. Lowden’s speech at Crookston, MN on Feb. 10, 1926.

Personal papers (1923-1959) include photographs and Christmas cards. Articles, manuscripts, and poetry by Vernice Aldrich (1926-1929) concern North Dakota history, agriculture, and cooperatives. Articles, manuscripts, and papers by others (1920-1923) include J. Elmer Switzer, The Geography of North Dakota (Ph.D. diss., Clark University, June 1923).

Brochures, booklets, and newspapers include: materials published by the National Geographic Society and various Protestant churches; a cloth map of the U.S. (1935); James Montgomery, Nothing but the Truth: A Comedy in Three Acts (New York: Samuel French, 1920). Isis E. Campbell’s folder contains his school papers and newspaper clippings. Other folders pertaining to U.N.D. and Wesley College include materials on Panhellenic, the Philymnian Club, and the University Club. Presidential Campaign and Inauguration Material (1928-1929) include pamphlets and flyers on the campaigns of Frank O. Lowden and Herbert Hoover, and press releases issued by Vernice, who covered the 1929 Washington, D.C. inauguration. The record, stock, ledger, and transfer book for the Aldrich Elevator Company (Kempton, N.D.) contains stock certificates and records (1902-1903).
