Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Grand Forks Street Railway Company Records, 1900-1974, consist of financial records, correspondence, executive documents, and meeting minutes.

Collection Historical Note

The Grand Forks Street Railway Company was incorporated in December 1908. A franchise for the operation of a trolley/streetcar line was granted by the city of Grand Forks in 1908 and East Grand Forks in 1910. In 1936, the stockholders authorized changing the name of the company to Grand Forks Transportation Company and, at the same time, authorized the use of buses. The company operated in Grand Forks until it was liquidated and dissolved in October 1974.
