Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Catherine Varner Papers consist of correspondence received from three soldiers in the Civil War: John Adams (future husband), E.H. Frank (friend), and James Stallcop (cousin). The letters detail life in Army camps during the war, battles the soldiers fought in, and life before the war. Varner lived in Iowa during that time.
